چکیده

Question A 50 years old Male known with a diagnosis of ulcerative colitis since October 2012 (Montreal Class E3) was seen for further follow up in gastroenterology outpatient. He was on Meselazine 2.4 gm per day. The last flare up he had was 2.5 years ago in April 2013 when he was treated successfully with a course of oral steroids. His colitis has been in a stable state with no further flare ups ever since. During his follow-up in Gastroenterology clinic in Sept 2015, he mentioned that he is opening his bowels 45/day with a consistency between watery to loose stool that was “normal” for him. He denied having significant bleeding or cramps. He also denied having a family history for colorectal cancer (CRC) or polyps. Physical examination was unremarkable. Blood test revealed a normal CRP of 7, FBC, LFTs and U &E were also normal. Further colonoscopy surveillance were organised for assessment.

Collagen and fibronectin in a healing skeletal muscle injury. An immunohistological study of the effects of physical activity on the repair of injured gastrocnemius muscle in the rat.

The presence of the connective tissue components fibronectin and the different types of collagen was demonstrated by histological and immunohistological methods in the granulation and scar tissue of a healing injury in rat muscle. The effects of physical activity on granulation tissue production, scar formation and muscle regeneration at various stages of healing were studied. It was shown that...

Gd-DTPA enhancement of posterior epidural scar: an experimental model.

Because of the tremendous clinical and physiological importance of anterior epidural scar, an easily produced and reproducible model to assess potential pathways for lessening its formation is a necessity. We speculated whether posterior epidural scar (produced by the less complex surgery of laminectomy alone) could be considered equivalent to anterior scar from an imaging standpoint; that is, ...

Diminished type III collagen promotes myofibroblast differentiation and increases scar deposition in cutaneous wound healing.

The repair of cutaneous wounds in the postnatal animal is associated with the development of scar tissue. Directing cell activities to efficiently heal wounds while minimizing the development of scar tissue is a major goal of wound management and the focus of intensive research efforts. Type III collagen (Col3), expressed in early granulation tissue, has been proposed to play a prominent role i...

Granulation tissue is a transitional replacement for normal dermis, which eventually matures into a scar during the remodelling phase of healing. It is characterised from unwounded dermis by its extremely dense network of blood vessels and capillaries, elevated cellular density of fibroblasts and macrophages and randomly organised collagen fibres (Ovington and Schultz, 2004). Healthy granulatio...

Adult zebrafish as a model system for cutaneous wound healing research

Upon injury, the skin must quickly regenerate to regain its barrier function. In mammals, wound healing is rapid and scar free during embryogenesis, whereas in adults it involves multiple steps including blood clotting, inflammation, re-epithelialization, vascularization, and granulation tissue formation and maturation, resulting in a scar. We have established a rapid and robust method to intro...
